Живой блок №16. Use your loaf
Hello, bonjour, hola, guten Tag, dzien dobry!
While winter hides under its lush hat, woven from white fluff, trees, houses, people and cats, has prepared something interesting.
You probably know that in both native and foreign language there are idioms. Idiom is a turn of speech whose meaning is not determined by the meaning of the words entering into it. Of course, in our native language we understand that "hood acquaintance" has only an indirect relation to hats, "you can leave in English" in any part of Ukraine, "reaching the handle" is easy, while doing absolutely nothing, including walking, "Pour on the first number" - in general on any day of any calendar month. No problem!
We love, we know how, we practice.
What about the idioms of the English language? Our LinguaKot prepared for you one game. It consists in writing the first meaning that came to mind, the corresponding idiom of the English language. Near each idiom will be a literal translation (perhaps it will lead you to some idea).
Only do not be cunning, referring to olden Google:)
So:
- The lights are on, but nobody's home
- Everything but the kitchen sink (all except the kitchen sink)
- Use your loaf
- Finger lickin 'good
- To put a sock in it
You can write an unlimited number of comments. Try to wake up your intuition. Or, perhaps, you already know what all these expressions mean? Share!
P.S .: For understanding which idiom is in question, number 1. 2, 3, 4, 5.
We are waiting for your options ![]()
